On the Market: An East Kensington rehab

Emily Copeman and her husband, Nick, estimate that they toured about 50 properties before finding their dream home.

"This home had amazing bones," she said. "Tall ceilings, beautiful exposed brick, a big backyard and an unusual layout that was a refreshing departure."

They also were drawn to the burgeoning East Kensington neighborhood, Copeman said.

"It's quiet and residential but just two blocks from bustling Frankford Avenue," she said.

After purchasing the home in 2015, the couple renovated the three-bedroom, 2,225-square-foot rowhouse extensively.

"We essentially demolished the entire inside of the home and rebuilt it from the ground up," she said.

Their work included a new, third-floor master suite with 12-foot vaulted ceilings and a custom, walk-in closet.

"We are so proud of this space," Copeman said. "It exudes luxury and calm."

The master bedroom also boasts an en-suite bath with marble floors, a jetted soaking tub, and a glass shower with rainfall head.

"Whenever guests tour our house, the 'oohs' and 'aahs' are endless on the third floor," she said.

In addition to the luxe master suite, the couple also enjoys spending time in the new kitchen.

"Though it's not the largest kitchen, it's chock full of efficient storage and the best appliances money can buy," Copeman said.

The couple recently decided to move to a larger home in preparation for a growing family. Copeman said they will miss the neighborhood.

"Every weekend, we wander into the neighborhood and see where the walk takes us," she said.

While they are looking forward to having a home with a second nursery, Copeman said, deciding to list the home for sale was bittersweet.

"It was an incredibly hard decision to part with this house — it is a work of art for us and this neighborhood has been the best place we've ever lived," Copeman said. "Our hearts will always be here."
