On the market: A $270,000 Hawthorne Lofts unit with great amenities

"Being able to take advantage of the roof deck, gym, sauna, steam room and common area - while living in an open, lofted condo - are some things that will be hard to give up," the current owner says.

When Timothy Boyle and Sepideh Etminan-Rad were looking for a home in 2010, a unit in a newly refurbished schoolhouse caught their eye.

"We immediately fell in love with the condo," Etminan-Rad said.

The couple was drawn to the open space in the loft, as well as the building itself.

"The high ceilings and huge windows — and in combination with the location and amenities — we couldn't pass it up," she said.

The one-bedroom unit features a wall of 12-foot windows and a lofted bedroom.

The Hawthorne Lofts were new when the couple bought the unit in September of that year, so Boyle said they didn't need to do much other than move right in. He said the couple painted and added shelving. "We had to do minimal changes," he said.

The couple said they have enjoyed the building's amenities, especially the roof deck. Building residents also have access to a private gym, steam room, yoga room, and a common room with billiards and an entertainment center.

"Being able to take advantage of the roof deck, gym, sauna, steam room and common area — while living in an open, lofted condo — are some things that will be hard to give up," Etminan-Rad said.

The couple, who recently decided to list the home for sale because they need more space, suspect new owners will enjoy Hawthorne Lofts' amenities, as well as the surrounding neighborhood, she said.

"Close proximity to grocery stores, restaurants — and a short walk to many different neighborhoods and public transportation — make living in the Hawthorne neighborhood very desirable," Boyle said.

"We would love to stay in the neighborhood," Etminan-Rad said. "Our reason for moving is just a need for more bedrooms."

The home is listed by Stephen Ferguson at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach for $270,000.
