When Raz Amirian bought his Newtown Square home in 2004, he was drawn to its difference from the rest of the neighborhood.

"I had never seen a unique property like this in this area," he said. "It reminded me of the French countryside."

The stone cottage dates back to the 17th century and features hand-cut shingles and copper drain pipes.

"I foresaw the potential of making it a very comfortable and out-of-the-ordinary home," Amirian said.

But when he bought the home, Amirian said, it was in a state of disrepair.

"The property was abandoned and neglected for many years," he said. "The former owner was going to demolish and build a massive house on it."

He restored it in a colonial style, updating plumbing and electrical, and renovating the kitchen and bathrooms. The property also features restored hardwood floors.

Amirian also brought in some decorative elements from his travels. "The gates were purchased from the Hamptons and the light fixtures on top of the stone pillars were purchased from an antique shop in Paris," he said.

The property sits on more than an acre, which Amirian says has provided his family with joy year-round.

"I immensely enjoy the beauty of all four seasons," he said. "In the spring, summer and autumn months, blooming flowers, greenery and changing leaves make it a welcoming place to call home — many passersby have stopped and taken photos."

Amirian said his family recently decided to sell the property they have called home for nearly 15 years.

"Now that our children have grown, it's time to move on," Amirian said. "We hope that it will bring as much happiness and prosperity to the next owners as it did for us."

The property is listed with Shakeh Amirian at BHHS Fox & Roach for $589,000.
