Newly married, Kyle and Laura Everly had just learned that a baby was on the way when they were on the market for a new home in 2013. They knew Fishtown had a lively cultural scene and had friends in the area, so when they found a newly built home with a roof deck, buying was an easy choice.

"We thought it would be a really fun and interesting place for a new family," Everly said.

Because the three-bedroom, 1,283-square-foot home was new when the Everlys purchased it, their renovations have been focused on luxury upgrades and aesthetics. Chief among them was a built-in storage project for the master bedroom, completed by a friend's company, Diplomat Closet Design.

"It not only adds great valuable storage space, but also gives the master bedroom a great feel," he said. "We know closet space can be hard to come by in the city."

In addition to the closet, Kyle said, Laura has commissioned and created several art pieces throughout the home. "Just to add color accents and a personal touch," he said.

The neighborhood has lived up to the couple's expectations for their family.

"The best part for us is the balance between being family-friendly and perfect for some adult time," he said. "It's been so amazing watching the progress of the neighborhood."

Everly said the part of the home the family has enjoyed most is the roof deck – an amenity often found exclusively in more expensive properties.

"It's always fun to have friends over and know everyone is enjoying the view," he said. "It's the type of feature that people usually associate with much more expensive homes, so we felt really fortunate to have it — and we'll certainly miss it."

With their eldest daughter about to start school, Kyle said the family has decided to relocate to another vibrant community: Haddonfield, New Jersey.

"Between having friends in that area, the schools, walkability, and the close proximity to the city, it just felt like the right fit for us," he said. "Moving is bittersweet, as this will always be the place where we started our family."

The property is listed with Frank DiFazio at CenterCity Team for $359,900.
