Owner of NOTO nightclub on Vine Street buys next-door parking lot where apartments were planned

The owners of the NOTO nightclub on Vine Street just north of Chinatown have acquired an adjacent parking lot that they’ve previously discussed as a development site for a 16-story apartment tower.

Meritis Group LLC, controlled by the mother-and-son development team Micheline and James De Berardine, paid $2.4 million for the 7,840 square foot lot on the northwest corner of 12th and Vine Streets, according to records filed with the city.

The De Berardines said in 2016 before opening the NOTO club at 1209 Vine St. that they intended to buy the next-door lot with plans for 99-unit apartment building with a high-tech automated parking system. But they withdrew their permit application for the planned tower later that year.

A Meritis spokesman did not respond to an email asking about current plans for the property.

Meritis Group also bought a blighted rowhouse at 1460 N. Dover St., just south of Jefferson Street in Brewerytown, for $32,000 through a sheriff’s sale in June 2016, a few months after acquiring the aged office building that become the NOTO club, according to records filed with the city.
