Sold: Louis Kahn’s Esherick House in Chestnut Hill

Chestnut Hill's Esherick House, which was completed by renowned architect Louis Kahn in 1961, has sold for $920,000.

Located at 204 Sunrise Lane, the home is one of nine designed by Kahn in the Philadelphia region. This property is known to have been a turning point in Kahn's career.

"I'm told this is the project where Kahn first came to understand light's poetic potential," former owner Lynn Gallagher said in September.

The property has been on and off the market for two years, and was first listed at $1.5 million in February 2012. It was placed under contract this past November, and was settled last week, according to Realtor Pat Gallagher.

Gallagher says the home garnered a lot more interest after the price dropped to $1.1 million.

The home is 2,770 square feet, has one bedroom, and one-and-a-half baths.

Architects, scholars and students from all over the world have toured the property due to its design and influence in Kahn's career.
