On The Market: Historic Queen Village home with two master suites for $675,000

While the home was built pre-Revolutionary War the previous owners rehabbed it from top to bottom offering an unexpectedly modern interior.

On the Market profiles homes for sale in the Philadelphia region.

Susan Thauer and husband Louis Moravec were living in what they called an "expanded trinity" when they decided it was time to find something a little bigger for their growing family. They closed in spring 2006, and their daughter was born in 2007.

"I walked in and felt like, 'this is home,'" Thauer said.

Their new home at 111 Catharine Street wasn't just bigger than their place around the corner on Monroe. It was move-in ready and came with another bonus: really welcoming owners.

Thauer said the couple is still friends with the previous owners. "That helped seal the deal," she said. "We already loved it. We bought it totally renovated."

While the home was built pre-Revolutionary War (there's a certificate to prove it, charting many of the families who lived there since the 18th century), the previous owners rehabbed it from top to bottom. Thauer said it surprises most people who visit.

"Guests always seem pleasantly surprised when they first come in," she said. "We both love that the charming historical façade opens into an unexpectedly modern interior."

Inside, updated appliances and conveniences abound. There's a gourmet cook's kitchen with Thermador range, and a thoroughly modern master suite including a whirlpool tub and steam shower. The suite is one of two masters, both with jetted baths.

Thauer's favorite part of the home is the second master suite, which spans the entire third floor and boasts a private deck.

The home includes two other outdoor spaces: a courtyard and a small space Thauer says the couple uses for grilling. The courtyard is bricked and ringed with high walls.

"It's so private," Thauer said.

The home, which is also listed on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places, is currently listed with Deidre Quinn at Keller Williams for $675,000. Thauer and Moravec have found another house to love in Northern Liberties.

"I can't wait for someone else to live here," Thauer said. "We liked the people that lived here before. It's just a great place to live."
