PUC approves 6.3% rate hike for Philly gas customers

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approved Wednesday a settlement allowing Philadelphia Gas Works to increase its gas rates $42 million, which will increase a typical residential bill by $5.88 a month, effective Nov. 28.

Under the settlement, the monthly bill for a typical residential customer will rise from $94.06 to $99.94, or 6.3 percent, compared with the 11.3 percent residential increase PGW sought in its original request. PGW’s current $12 monthly service charge for residential customers would increase to $13.75.

The PUC voted, 4-0, to accept the settlement PGW reached in July with the commission’s staff and consumer advocates.

The full rate-case filing can be viewed online at the PUC’s website under Docket No. R-2017-2586783.
