Free coffee at Wawa today

Wawa is celebrating its 50th anniversary by giving away free coffee today.

The convenience store chain opened its first outlet on April 16, 1964, in Folsom, Delaware County.

There are now more than 645 Wawa stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida. Customers at any of those locations can get a free coffee of any size today.

To commemorate the half-century mark, the chain is also giving away 50 gift cards a week between today and June 18.

Company officials are celebrating the occasion at the original Wawa outlet.

Mayor Michael Nutter is declaring April 16 "Wawa Day" at an event at the store's 17th and Arch streets location.
