Gamblers lost $201.4 million in slot machines at Pennsylvania's casinos last month, 1.7 percent less than they did a year ago, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said.

The results show that casino spending, which was hammered by a tough winter, has failed to rebound this summer. At four Philadelphia-area casinos, gamblers lost about $810,000, or 1.15 percent, less than last July, thanks to an increase of nearly $540,000, or 10 percent, at Valley Forge Casino Resort.

That gain offset declines at Harrah's Philadelphia in Chester and at Sugarhouse in Philadelphia. Parx Casino was about flat. Seven of the state's 12 casinos posted year-over-year declines in July. - Harold Brubaker
