Volunteers sought for Phila.-based tax work

The Internal Revenue Service and a Philadelphia-based social services group are looking for volunteers to complete tax returns for working families eligible for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit.

Volunteers - who don't need experience - will be trained starting in December by the Campaign for Working Families. That training will come with IRS certification for volunteering at centers across the city that offer free form-filing help for people eligible for the EITC and other offerings.

Volunteers will need to pass an open-book test on preparing simple tax returns, and will be asked to work a minimum of six sessions between Jan. 25 and April 15.

The sessions are usually three or four hours on weekdays, weeknights or Saturdays.

Not interested in filing forms but still want to volunteer? Greeters and other positions need to be filled, the IRS says.

Contact the Campaign for Working Families online for more information and to register online. Or call 215-851-1759.    - Roslyn Rudolph
