SunGard lays off close to 200

SunGard, a software and IT services company based in Wayne, said today that it laid off close to 200 employees Thursday.

Valeria Maltoni, a company spokeswoman, said that about 30 percent of the laid-off employees worked in this region.

SunGard has 20,000 employees worldwide, including 2,000 in the Philadelphia area. She said the company has no other plans for large-scale layoffs.

SunGard, a privately held company that still files earnings reports, reported Thursday that third-quarter 2009 revenue was down by 4 percent compared with 2008, but that earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization were up by $2 million, or 0.5 percent.    - Stacey Burling
