Johnson & Johnson to close 2 Phila.-area sites

Johnson & Johnson said today that it was closing research & development facilities in Radnor and Chesterbrook and consolidating those operations at the company's Spring House site.

The New Brunswick, N.J., company would not say how many jobs are at those locations now or how many would remain in Spring House after the move, which is to be completed by 2012.

Johnson & Johnson announced Tuesday that it would cut about 8,000 jobs out of 117,000 total worldwide but would not offer specifics about where the reductions would occur.

The company owns the Spring House location but leases offices at the two other sites. The changes are aimed at saving $1.7 billion at the health-care products and pharmaceutical company by 2011.    - Miriam Hill
