N.J. releases updated energy master plan

New Jersey's updated Energy Master Plan, released by the Christie administration late Friday afternoon, continues to forecast a dim future for offshore wind development.

New Jersey's updated Energy Master Plan, released by the Christie administration late Friday afternoon, continues to forecast a dim future for offshore wind development.

"While the future may bring change, offshore wind in the U.S. is not economically viable at this time," according to the report, jointly released by the Board of Public Utilities and the Department of Environmental Protection.

Jeff Tittel, director of the New Jersey Sierra Club, was quick to denounce the update. "This plan is full of hot air; it's still promoting natural gas and fossil fuels over renewable energy and energy efficiency."

The 80-page report is posted on the state's website at http://nj.gov/emp. The public can submit written comments until Dec. 4.
