2013 IIHS Top Safety Pick Winners

Each year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety determines which cars are the safest by testing how well it protects its occupants in a crash. The IIHS rates the cars good, acceptable, marginal or poor based on five tests; moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, rollover and rear.

In order to earn a Top Safety Pick-Plus, the cars must receive good ratings in at least 4 of the tests, and at least acceptable in the fifth test.
