American Airlines adding daily flights from Philly to Mexico City starting this summer

The airline, which boasts the most non-stop destinations through PHL, will begin daily evening flights to Benito Juárez International Airport as well as morning return flights beginning July 5.

American Airlines will add daily year-round service to Mexico City from Philadelphia International Airport starting this summer, the airline announced Friday.

The airline, which boasts the most non-stop destinations through PHL, will begin daily evening flights to Benito Juárez International Airport as well as morning return flights beginning July 5. These tickets can be purchased starting March 12 and are currently the only announced nonstop flights to Mexico City through PHL.

"This service will benefit both business and leisure passengers as well as enhance the airport's economic impact on the Philadelphia metro region," said PHL CEO Chellie Cameron in a statement.

American previously announced it will begin service June 7 to Des Moines, Iowa; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Madison, Wis.; Oklahoma City; Omaha, Neb.; Pensacola, Fla.; and San Antonio, as well as nonstop flights to Budapest, Hungary, and to Prague that will begin in May.

Philadelphia is the airline's transatlantic gateway, and its fourth largest hub in terms of departures, according to company spokeswoman Victoria Lupica.

The airline says it currently employs more than 8,400 team members at PHL, where it offers 426 peak day departures to 122 destinations and 22 countries.
