Orlando Wawa opens, 'filling a void' in Florida life

POSTED: Wednesday, July 18, 2012, 9:55 AM

 Florida Governor Rick Scott will speak about the significance of Wawa to the State
 Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer speaking about the significance of Wawa to the local region

Florida Governor Rick Scott and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer joined Wawa Inc. bosses Howard Stoeckel and Chris Gheysens today at the suburban Philadelphia-based smokes-Cokes-gas-snacks-hoagies store chain's first Florida store, on Orlando's Central Florida Parkway.

The company says it will "penetrate the Central Florida market over the next five weeks" with additional stores in Orlando and nearby Kissimmee (two each).

The new stores (and other planned for Tampa later) are "filling a void in our new Florida customers' lives, providing them with a level of convenience and appetite appeal our customers have come to rely on us for,” says Wawa boss Chris Gheysens in a statement.

Penny, you crazy! Wawa is clutch. Respect for them in New Jersey because they charge the same cash/credit for gas. Money is money...

I know a number of Philly natives who relocated to central FLA. They have been waiting for Wawa for quite some time. Good for them!

i pity anyone who lives anywhere near the I-4 corridor. orlando, tampa, etc. are really miserable places to live. the only quality part of Fla. is miami beach

And living in Lower Makefield, I have to drive 15 mins to the nearest Wawa, which is one of my favorite conveniences. I could give Wawa a dozen locations to open that would be gold mines.

Wawa is good for milk, bread and eggs before a snowstorm. That's all.

They pre-cut the meat for hoagies in many stores and that makes them inedible. Unless you like lots of lettuce with a touch of pre-cut meat and cheese.

I don't know what Wawa you go to, but it's obviously not the same ones I frequent.

I'm one of those part-time Floridians who misses Wa-Wa. They are the very best of mini-marts.

wawa used to be good. they changed something baout their hoagies. Maybe it's because I am no longer in college and I am sober when I eat them. I didn't like when they got rid of the butternut squash soup and the actual chicken patty (now they have chicken fingers which cant compare to the patty)
