J&J Snack Foods buys Illinois bakery

J&J Snack Foods Corp., of Pennsauken, said it bought Hill & Valley Inc., a Rockville, Ill., bakery that specializes in sugar-free and no-sugar-added cakes, cookies, pies, muffins and other desserts for supermarkets.

The price was not disclosed, but J&J said Hill & Valley has more than $45 million in annual revenue. J&J, which is best known for its Superpretzel brand of soft pretzels and Icee frozen drinks, had $993 million in sales in the year ended Sept. 30.

Hill & Valley is J&J's first acquisition since May 2014, a unusual dry spell for a company that has made regular, small acquisitions part of its growth strategy for may years.
