Daily News staffers win National Association of Black Journalists awards

“Salute to Excellence” honors go to reporters, writers, page designer and photographerwb/ch/amj/

DAILY NEWS staffers continued to reap journalism prizes, taking six of the nine categories in the paper's division of the National Association of Black Journalists' 2015 Salute to Excellence awards on Saturday during the NABJ Convention in Minneapolis, Minn.

The winners:

Feature series: Jenice Armstrong, "Celebrating Success," exceptional people doing exceptional things.

Specialty: Jenice Armstrong, "Hair-Raising."

Commentary: Helen Ubiñas, for her columns.

Special Project: "Tapped Out," a special section detailing the impact of poverty on the city. It was the work of the Daily News staff along with Holly Otterbein, WHYY; Andrew Mendelson, Temple University Center for Public Interest Journalism; Todd Wolfson, Media Mobilizing Project; and Solomon Jones, AxisPhilly.

The Daily News awards were in the category of "Newspaper Under 150,000" circulation.

NABJ annually recognizes work from print, television, radio, online, photojournalism and public relations.

During this year's convention, former Daily News photographer Sarah Glover, social media editor for NBC, was elected president of the NABJ, the largest organization for black journalist in the country.
