St. Mary Medical Center, in Langhorne, has joined the network of hospitals where Children's Hospital of Philadelphia neonatologists and pediatricians provide around-the-clock neonatal intensive care and pediatric emergency care, St. Mary announced.

St. Mary recently spent $4 million on new neonatal intensive care and labor and deliver units. The NICU opened in May. CHOP physicians started working there on Saturday.

Starting Oct. 1, CHOP emergency-room doctors will staff St. Mary's pediatric emergency department, which treated 17,000 children last year, St. Mary said.

Other area hospitals where CHOP physicians have a signficant presence include Grand View, Abington Memorial, Chester County, and Virtua, in New Jersey.
