New Jersey's Public Service Electric and Gas Co. leapfrogged PPL Electric Utilities of Allentown in this year's J.D. Power ranking of business customer satisfaction among large electric utilities in the eastern United States.

On J.D. Power's 1,000-point scale, PSE&G scored 685, ahead of PPL's 681. The 12 large electric utilities had an average score of 659. The scores are based on five measures of customer satisfaction: power quality and reliability, billing and payment, corporate citizenship, price, and communications.

Peco Energy Co. of Philadelphia was the only utility among the 12 whose score declined from last year. It scored 644 and was ranked ninth. Last year it ranked fourth. J.D. Power's rankings for residential customer satisfaction are released in the summer.
