Debt-collector keeps making wake-up calls

Reader works a graveyard shift, so those calls are not just irritating.

DEAR HARRY: A few years ago, I got into some financial problems by putting all my savings in a friend's "sure thing" business. In two years, I lost it all. My credit cards started to swell until they reached a top of $26,000. With great effort, including negotiation, I finally got down to one creditor with less than $3,000 due. This outfit is a collection agency for a debt I owed to the landlord for my daughter's college apartment. I was co-signer on the lease. This guy calls me every day, including weekends, several times a day. He knows I work a graveyard shift and those calls keep waking me up. I'm paying as fast as I can, since they agreed to no extra charges. Help! I need that sleep.

WHAT HARRY SAYS: Your problem is an easy one. Just unplug the phone in the room in which you sleep. That toad can call all he likes without your losing sleep. Is this the question you wanted me to answer? I have the distinct feeling that I'm missing your real concern. If you're worried about cluttering your answering device, you can get one that will screen your calls. Do write me again if I totally missed your intent.
