Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, a state-funded nonprofit that invests in technology firms, elected Timothy C. Scheve to its board of directors. Scheve is president and CEO of Janney Montgomery Scott L.L.C.

J. Edmund Mullin has joined American Land Title Association's Title Action Network, an industry trade group that communicates with legislators, statewide and federal, on issues affecting the land-title industry. He is the chair of the real estate and land use department of Hamburg, Rubin, Mullin, Maxwell & Lupin, Lansdale.

The Free Library of Philadelphia named H.W. Jerome Maddox to its board. He is senior counsel, global and U.S. oncology legal operations, at GlaxoSmithKline and had been assistant general counsel for Aramark Corp.

James M. Brower Jr. has been elected president of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Brower is a partner specializing in research and tax compliance with G3 of PA L.L.C.

Other officers include: JoAnn Szupka, an assurance senior manager with BDO USA L.L.P. in Philadelphia, president-elect; Ralph E. Diodata, a manager with the Mironov Group in Blue Bell, secretary; and Jacquelyn M. Basso, owner of J.M. Basso & Associates in Downingtown, treasurer.

Stephen H. Frishberg, a partner at Deeb Blum Murphy Frishberg & Markovich, has been elected chairman of the Golden Slipper Club and Charities, a nonprofit multiservice agency founded in 1922.

EducationWorks, a nonprofit organization that provides educational support for economically disadvantaged communities in the Philadelphia area, named the following board members: Marie Gould Harper, program director and professor, management, at American Public University System; Carol Orenstein, director of strategic marketing and channel partnerships at the Conference Board; Marc M. Orlow, an attorney at Begelman, Orlow & Melletz; Wendy Verna, founder/owner of Octo Design Group Inc.; and Joseph Youngblood II, vice provost and dean of Thomas Edison State College, Trenton.

Philadelphia labor and employment lawyer Deborah R. Willig, of Willig, Williams & Davidson, has been named to the board of the Juvenile Law Center, a nonprofit public-interest law firm for children.

  The Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, elected Stephen E. Kelly and Stephen J. Felice to its board of trustees. Kelly is a senior partner with the global management-consulting firm McKinsey & Co. and heads its Philadelphia office. Felice is president and chief commercial officer at Dell Inc.

The Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery, the nonprofit organization that maintains the historic cemetery, appointed Henry Disston Jr. and Jon C. Sirlin to its board. Disston is president and executive director of the Delaware Valley Science Fairs. Sirlin is managing attorney and president of Sirlin, Lesser & Benson P.C.

The Philadelphia Zoo said current zoo board members John A. Ginter, Joan C. Hendricks, and Ellen C. Wolf were elected board vice chairs. Ginter is a senior managing director of Abbot Downing, a Wells Fargo business. Hendricks is the Gilbert S. Kahn Dean of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to her recent retirement, Wolf was senior vice president and chief financial officer of American Water Co.

The following were named members of the board: Jason W. Ingle, cofounder and managing partner of Closed Loop Capital; Charles N. Marshall, a Pottstown farmer and railway consultant who is the former president and chief operating officer of Genesee & Wyoming Inc.; Christine J. Smith, cofounder, retired executive director, and present board chair of the Center for Loss and Bereavement; Susan C. Taylor, a physician, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, and founding director of the Skin of Color Center at St. Luke's Hospital in New York; and Carolyn W. Turner, a former teacher of the deaf who was instrumental in establishing the Turner School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.

Edward D. McBride has been named chairman of Nazareth Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia. He is manager of local government affairs for Peco Energy.

  Wistar Institute, Philadelphia, a nonprofit biomedical-research organization, named Mark L. Greenberg to its board of trustees. Greenberg is provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Drexel University.

Philadelphia attorney Eric H. Weitz, of Messa & Associates P.C., has been appointed to the board of the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority by House Democratic leader Frank Dermody. The authority develops programs and policies to reduce medical errors and increase patient safety.

Duane Morris partner Michael Cohen, of the firm's Philadelphia office, has been elected to the board of the Independence Business Alliance-Greater Philadelphia Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Chamber of Commerce for a two-year term. Cohen concentrates his practice in the areas of employment-law training and counseling. The alliance is a membership-based business advocacy group dedicated to making the Philadelphia region an influential and diverse LGBT business community.

  The Pennsylvania Academy of General Dentistry, Mechanicsburg, elected Eric Shelly president of its board. He is in private practice at West Chester Dental Arts in West Chester.

Daniel J. Phelan, former senior adviser to the CEO at GlaxoSmithKline, has been named to the board of managers of Philadelphia Foundation, a community foundation that manages more than 900 component funds to support the region's nonprofit sector.

Pardee Resources Co., a Philadelphia-based firm that manages rights for coal, oil, natural gas, minerals, and timber on properties in 13 states, elected William G. Foulke to its board. Foulke has served as a director of the company, and its predecessor companies, since 1975.

      The Philadelphia Orchestra Association has elected the following area business and community leaders to its board: Kenneth E. Davis, senior director for Duane Morris Government Strategies; Joseph M. Manko, founding partner at Manko, Gold, Katcher and Fox, L.L.P.; Henry N. Nassau, partner at Dechert L.L.P.; Caroline B. Rogers, an active community leader, member of the volunteer committees of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and field hockey coach for the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr; and Lindy Snider, an entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Lindi Skin.
