Bloomberg News reported that a Philadelphia jury has awarded an Illinois woman at least $6.3 million in damages after finding that two Pfizer Inc. hormone- replacement therapy drugs, Prempro and Provera, caused her breast cancer and led to her having a double mastectomy in 2002.

The combination of Wyeth's Prempro and Pharmacia & Upjohn's Provera menopause drugs was a substantial contributing factor in Donna Kendall's breast cancer, Bloomberg reported.

Wyeth, has lost six of nine jury verdicts, including the last four in a row, over the drugs since 2006, Bloomberg said.

Pfizer completed its $68 billion purchase of Wyeth, which has Philadelphia-area operations, on Oct. 15.    - Inquirer staff
