Comcast Corp. and General Electric Co. agreed to value GE's NBC Universal at about $30 billion as they discuss creating a joint venture to own the entertainment division, Bloomberg News reported today, citing three people familiar with the matter.
Vivendi SA, which owns 20 percent of NBC Universal, isn't yet part of the agreement but the deal would be dependent on the Paris-based company selling its stake, according to one of the people, Bloomberg reported.
GE, which owns the remaining 80 percent, and Philadelphia-based Comcast, the largest U.S. cable company, are in talks to create a company that would include New York-based NBC Universal.
Comcast would own 51 percent of the venture, and could increase that ownership position to 100 percent over three to seven years, sources say.
Word that the deal was being discussed at all came to light only at the end of September.
