Welcome to Devon 2018

New and old traditions come together this year as the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair hosts its 127th show. The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair is the longest running and largest outdoor multi-breed competition in the United States. Events begin on Thursday, May 24 and run through Sunday, June 3.

Some of the most anticipated events in the Dixon Oval are the five FEI CS14 jumping classes, which begin on Tuesday evening, May 29. The Arena Eventing Class, new last year, is back by popular demand. Entrants in this class will show on Sunday, May 29 and vie for a $50,000 prize. The annual Carriage Marathon will return earlier that day, parading through the streets of Devon and ending in the Dixon Oval.

The Sapphire Grand Prix celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The Grand Prix, on Thursday, May 31, will offer up to $250,000 in prize money.

In addition to the classes in the Dixon Oval, there will be a number of exhibitions for spectators to enjoy. On Friday, May 25, the mounted police competition returns to Devon. Radnor Hunt visits Devon on Saturday, May 26, for a fox hunting demonstration. Memorial Day weekend also includes the Washington International Shetland pony steeplechase on Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28. On Memorial Day, a special Tribute to Heroes, sponsored by Patriot Chevrolet Buick GMC Dealerships, will include performances and honors for military and first-responders.

“The Patriot Dealerships are committed to community involvement and honored to show our support by benefiting the horse show’s pledge to Bryn Mawr Hospital and sponsoring free admissions for those who have served our country and communities on Memorial Day,” said Jason Owens, owner of Patriot Dealerships.

The festivities are not limited to events in the ring. Visitors will find food, shopping and activities for the entire family. Get a taste of Devon with a Devon Special, lemon stick, tea sandwiches and much more. The Midway will be open every day with classic carnival rides, including the iconic Ferris Wheel, and games. Visitors can take home a piece of Devon to have year-round by stopping by the Souvenirs booth or one of the many vendors on the grounds.

Special events will also take place throughout the show. Ladies, be sure to have your hats ready for Ladies Day and the annual hat competition on Wednesday, May 30. Children are not left out of the fun as they will have their own hat decorating contest and Itty Bitty Hat Parade on the final day of the show. Even dogs will have their day at Devon, which comes on Thursday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m., when you can bring your pooch to compete in categories such as best trick and best costume.

If you have been eyeing the beautiful flowers and plants around the show grounds, be sure to stop by the Plant Sale on Sunday, June 3 at 3 p.m. for your chance to take them home.

These are only a few of the many events and experiences at this year’s show. Come see what Devon has in store.
