Philly.com introduces Badgeville
Philly.com is excited to announce the launch of a fun new feature geared toward creating and rewarding a stronger community of users on the site.
Starting today, registered users will begin collecting points and virtual rewards - trophies and badges - for completing certain activities on Philly.com: visiting the site, reading articles and commenting on stories.
Throughout the site and on your My Profile page, you’ll see a few ‘widgets’ displaying top users and current activity on Philly.com. Your point total and trophies will also appear each time you leave a comment.
If you’re not a registered user on the site, click here to register and join the fun.
Powered by Badgeville, winner of the 2010 Audience Choice award at TechCrunch Disrupt, this feature opens a new frontier of combining content with community. We realize many of our users are very passionate and active on Philly.com, and are excited to recognize their dedication in a fun and engaging way.
More activities will be added in the future (sharing stories on Facebook and Twitter is in the works), and we would love your feedback on how this functionality could enhance your Philly.com experience. You can leave us comments below or email badges@philly.com.

Cool. I like the idea. OldWhiteandRich
Hey, Wendy Warren. SURE I want to help! I already did. phluphya19147- Fantastic! I will try to email you. If you don't get it, I will find you on the site and we'll figure out how to get you some of the ideas we are considering.

Comment removed.- hey, this is great, now with this new revised comments section, the page is taking twice as long to load, are we back to the 90s? At least your automated ad videos are still running! dpcoz
The comment section did need a little work - too many chances for trolls. I find that the comments section very often is the most interesting part of the story. To see what real people think. The only real negative I've seen is the "Badgeville" system appears slow - too much time "waiting" for it to load. Hopefully this will improve. Mr.Burf2You- Uhh, so am I missing something...where are my badges? I don't see anything in my profile page.
- Ooh! I want a badge.
- @tdawgy808 - We took down the Badgeville application for a short time this afternoon to tie up some loose ends. Everything is back up and running now. You should be able to see your badges in the top right corner of your My Profile page.
- Hi folks -- this is Chris over at Philly.com. Thanks for your feedback today. You should find the site running at top speed after some tweaks this afternoon. Keep the feedback coming!
- Somewhere I smell a marketing ploy here!! dogman5
I think great idea! I agree with Wendy - reward people for insightful comments! I would even go a step further and reward comments with links to sites for more information or another side of a story that may not have been reported on! Keep up the good work content! P.S - for all those that think this de-values the journalism, I would say this should only make you want to read more and comment more when you have a strong opinion, right? Even if its as prophetic as ZZZZZ! asmeezy
