US Airways: $5 more unless paying online for checking bags

US Airways announced a new twist to its fees for checked bags, raising the cost to $20 for the first piece if you don't opt to pay $15 online. The airline, as you would expect, put the emphasis in a news release on offering passengers (why do they not call them customers?) the "convenience" of being able to prepay the bag charges online. Checking a second bag will cost $30 unless you prepay $25 online.

Frequent fliers with enough miles, trans-Atlantic passengers and some other groups aren't assessed the fees. Does this make you wonder if anyone is still checking bags on this airline unless absolutely necessary?
