The Associated Press' Washington transportation reporter has a story today from unamed sources that the Federal Aviation Administration could slap a hefty fine on American Airlines for improperly secured wiring in almost 300 MD-80 jets. Not done right, the wiring could be a fire hazard. The FAA grounded the planes last year until the wiring could be secured correctly. The AA fine could be in the ballpark of the $10.2 million FAA proposed last year for Southwest, the largest in the agency's history, for flying planes after they missed inspections for possible fuselage cracks; Southwest ultimately paid a $7.5 million fine. Read more about the American case here.
