The FAA is upping the price again for airlines that don't follow its airworthiness directives to the letter of the law. The agency proposed a record $24.2 million fine for American for failing to follow regulations in the way it secured wiring in its MD-80-series jets two years ago. The proposed fine is more than twice what regulators wanted to slap on Southwest in 2008.
