The U.S. Department of Transportation slapped a big fine of $375,000 on Spirit Airlines yesterday for a lengthy list of violations of consumer protection and fairness regulations -- things like failing to compensate bumped passenger as the law requires. Spirit doesn't serve PHL but is the largest airline at Atlantic City International Airport. A brief AP report on DOT's action can be found here. And for a longer and more colorful report, check out travel writer Chris Elliott's blog posting here.
