The chairman of the House Transportation Committee, Rep. James Oberstar, has asked the Government Accountability Office to study the effect on revenue for the federal aviation trust fund of airlines' "ancillary" fees. Oberstar says that by adding fees to services that once were included in ticket prices, the government may be losing the tax revenue it collects each time a ticket is sold. Just as we have thought for awhile, fee on top of fee may eventually come back to bite airlines that charge them. Read more on Oberstar's request here.
