Obama calls for high-speed rail spending

You may recognize the headline above: We have been reporting here the last several months that President Obama has a different vision from his predecessor on the value of speedy passenger trains and rail travel in general. Yesterday, the president outlined his vision for 10 high-speed corridors around the country, an announcement reported widely by the media and turned into local news stories in cities that are on one of the corridors. Read the basic's of the Obama announcement in this story.

Check out more background on faster rail travel in my Feb. 23 column on the topic, and an excellent story from The Times of London about what high-speed trains do for European business travelers that I posted March 30.
