My family is lucky enough to have tickets to the Phillies' Sunday home games. So during baseball season, I get to see a swell bunch of guys, a couple times a month, make the city proud out there on the field.
I admit having a soft spot for center-fielder Shane Victorino, whose new foundation aims to support kids' causes in Philly and in his native Hawaii.
So I'm casting my vote for "Vic," as he's known to his teammates, to win Chevrolet's 2010 Roberto Clemente award in recognition of his humanitarian urges.
True, there's a Chevy tie-in, and you're required to give your name and address to cast a vote. So I expect there's junk-mail in the future of anyone who casts a ballot. But I think Vic, one of 30 contenders, is worth it. Besides, voters get a shot at winning World Series tickets, so it's all good, right?
