Philly Mag in More Hot Water

POSTED: Friday, April 5, 2013, 1:11 PM

It's been a rough month for my former co-workers at Philadelphia Magazine. First came author Bob Huber's controversial piece in the March issue, "Being White in Philly." It raised the hackles of many readers and journalists (including yours truly)  who took issue with how it was written and reported.

And now, editor Tom McGrath has published an apology for and retraction of a fabricated piece in the current issue by author Anthony Gargano entitled "The War Within." Read McGrath's explanation here.

Not that Philly mag deserved any consideration, but it sure is ugly when the city's Liberals turn on one of their own for not being PC enough.

So they ran a story that turned out to not be true and they apologized for it. When will the Daily News do that about thier Tainted Justice Series?

So they ran a story that was true and appeased the opposition thru needless interviews and "symposiums" but no convo has been started due to the anti libs and the offended African americans smart or not who simply didn't face the issues posed by the article. This site is a joke...

Question- has the Inquirer or Daily News ever had to do retraction? Yes, Yes they have.

I love it how its perfectly acceptable for african americans to costantly talk about how they feel when it comes to race. There are COUNTLESS articles, intervews, etc from the african american point of view. Phily Mag writes ONE article which conveys a white persons perspective and they get thrown to the fire for it. Utterly ridiculous.

Its not acceptable because its the truth... Put duct tape over your mouth now . don't ever post anything about race or you will be banned.. And please don't visit any area whith a white or black populace with ur opinion because you will be banned

What white people did they talk to? Just yuppies in Northern Liberties. I guess they left out kensington, port richmond, fishtown, mayfair, etc. I do not know anyone that does the things in that article.

Wow Ronnie, considering what the Inquirer and Daily News have been through in the past few years why such joy over this magazines problems? The Daily News has lost all integrity and turned into nothing but a tabloid.

About this blog

When my phone rings here at the Daily News, nine times out of ten the caller begins the conversation with, “Yeah, so what happened was…”.

Because this is Philly, the caller doesn’t say, “My name is Bob” – or Mary – “and I wonder if I could have a moment of your time?” Philadelphians are too direct for that. They just say, “Yeah, so what happened was…”, and then tumble into a tale they think oughta be shared with a wider audience. I love getting these calls (even the ones where it becomes clear, after 30 seconds, where the caller sowed the seeds of his own misery), because they give me chance to connect with fellow citizens in a way that no other job allows. Well, okay, no other job for which I’m remotely qualified.

That’s why my blog is titled “So What Happened Was…”. To me, it’s the quintessentially Philly way of saying, “Once upon a time.” When I hear it, I know a good story is coming. And I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
