Winter on the doorstep?

January-style chill possible early next week.

If the winter clothes are still in storage, this might be a good time to liberate them.

After a few days of relative normality, the atmosphere is expected to color November a deeper shade of blue around here and in much of the nation.

Temperatures could fall into the low and mid-20s by Monday morning, and not climb out of the 30s Sunday and Monday, or 15 to 20 degrees below normal.

With an Arctic surge expected, the Climate Prediction Center's 6-to-10-outlook has a huge area of the country virtually blotted in blue, with below-normal temperatures favored from Arizona to Maine, and South Dakota to Florida.

After two days of highs in the 60s, through yesterday November temperatures in Philadelphia were averaging almost dead-on normal.

The departures in the forecast likely will nudge the month into the below column.
