Weather changing at KYW
Less Accu-Weather in KYW forecasts.
Weather changing at KYW
Unlike the weather, KYW Newsradio ordinarily is a paragon of predictability ... you give us 22 minutes ... traffic on the 2's ... and now KYW Sports ... .
Thus we've found it somewhat jarring in recent days when we heard KYW weather reports attributed to CBS3.
KYW and Accu-Weather have had a partnership that dates back over 35 years. After all, Joel Myers, the company's founder, and broadcasting icon Elliot Abrams are Philly natives.
Marc Rayfield, a CBS Radio senior vice president, told us that KYW just signed a long-term contract with Accu-Weather and will continue to use the service.
But he also noted that listeners are hearing more forecasts from CBS3. He declined to say just how much more, or just what the mix will be in the future.
"We're still doing all kinds of different things," he said.
He also declined to comment on terms of the new deal with Accu-Weather.
We'll assume it's more economical than the old one, believed to have been worth upwards of $200,000 annually, since CBS owns KYW.

Why even sign the deal with accuweather. KYW and CBS have continued to become more intertwined lately, might as well save the money so few people actually need radio or even television to tell us the weather. ConverseB24
Hard hitting journalism Tony. I'm looking forward to your next piece: "CBS assigns parking spaces to employees with cars, alienates bicycle riders" Bill E. Penn
Bad move. Accuweather on KYW was the only sober, non-sensationalized forecast in town; it was Joe Friday, just the facts, with intelligence that didn't need or try to impress with jargon. And by my crude calculations, they are right more often the not. Elliot Abrams gets me ready for the day and week, and often creates little clever narratives. Again, bad move. rdonze
Now here is a great spot for CBS to put Howard Eskin reporting the weather.. He only works on sunday ( next to Reid), so there is plenty of time to report the weather..Problem is...weather changes all the time..Howard doesn't.. STEVE5444
