Two tornadoes spawned by Monday’s storms, weather service says
Twisters evidently touched down outside Reading and in southern Delaware.
Just before a strong front plowed through the Philadelphia region Monday, a tornado touched down in a wooded area about 15 miles northwest of Reading, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.
It wasn't a big one – an EF0 with a peak wind of 80 mph – cutting a 50-yard path for 2.1 miles in the Shartlesville section of Upper Bern Township at 2:36 p.m.
No one was injured, but it uprooted several large hardwood trees on the southern slope of Blue Mountain.
The rotational path of the damage indicated that it was caused by a twister.
Also, the weather service said that based on an "initial estimate," an EF0 touched down in Greenwood, Sussex County, Del.
