Storms: Airport delays of 25 minutes

Wind gust of 71 m.p.h. reported.

Just before 3 p.m., a thunderstorm wind gust of 71 m.p.h. was reported at Philadelphia International Airport as a strong line of storms zipped through the region.

The airport was experiencing departure delays of up to 25 minutes, according to the website flightaware.com.

PECO had reported over 5,000 power outages in Delaware and Montgomery Counties, with scattered outages in Bucks and Chester Counties and Philadelphia.

As of about 5:50, under 2,000 customers were without power in the five counties, PECO spokesman Greg Smore said.

At one point 1,500 customers lost power in the City of Chester as a result of wind and tree-limb damage, he said.

In addition to the gusts at Philly International, a 62 m.p.h. wind was measured at Northeast Philadelphia Airport; a 52 m.p.h. gust at Trenton Airport; and 60 m.p.h. near Turnersville.

Additional showers were rippling through the region, but no additional warnings have been posted.
