Snow returns

Expect another inch this morning around Philly.

Snow has returned to the region, and it looks to last at least a few more hours, says Jim Poirier, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

The back edge was over the Chesapeake Bay, he said, and expect another inch in the immediate Philadelphia area between now and about 11.

Last night, up to 2 inches accumulated in some of the northern and western suburbs, but only 0.3 was measured officially at Philadelphia International Airport, just enough to put a clean coating on the rapidly graying snow mounds.

This has been a strange storm system, which explains the strange forecast that had called for 1 to 2 inches last night and maybe an inch today. As always, not all the details lined up, but it looks right now as though that forecast is going to work out.

For those keeping score, the official Philadelphia total stands at 72.4.
