Snow: Morning commute could get ugly

About 2 inches expected, and the timing looks awful.

The forecast snow amounts have inched up subtly, and the National Weather Service now is calling for 2 to 3 inches in around Philadelphia. Here's the projected accumulation map.

The amounts aside -- and we should all be used to winter driving by now -- the bigger problem is the timing.

It appears that the snow will start during the early-morning hours, which would give it an excellent chance of sticking on roads, which means it could be a fine morning to wait it out if the boss allows.

Also, it appears that the bulk of it will fall in the morning while it's below freezing, and by the time temperatures rise in the afternoon to give the salt a hand, the snow may be over.

It doesn't take much snow to cause problems, as everyone learned on the afternoon of Dec. 16 when 0.3 inches at rush-hour turned routine commutes into ordeals.

Meanwhile, the chances of more snow the middle of next week are up to 50-50, and right now the cold is forecast to persist for the foreseeable future.
