Snow: 8:30 update

Up to 4 inches reported in Chester County in Round 1.

The National Weather Service hasn't posted totals yet, but 3 and 4 inches are being reported north and west of the city with moderate to heavy snow still falling in some areas.

Radar shows the snow-mix line continues to press north and west toward Philadelphia, and temperatures everywhere are very close to freezing.

The accumulating snow is supposed to shut off in the next hour or so and give way to lighter, mixed precipitation for most of the rest of the day.

As we noted, the snow moved out well ahead of a Gulf system that is due to blow up off the East Coast later, throwing back heavy snow starting between 5 and 6.

Bob Wanton at the weather service in Mount Holly says it's going to be real close call as to whether the snow disrupts another peak commute period.

The latest snow map has a 6 or so inches in and around Philadelphia, but we'd be surprised if those storm total projections don't nudge up a bit.
