Snow and crime

In Tweet, Philly district attorney heartily endorses snow.

We have read and written about studies purporting to link hot weather and violent crime.

Intuitively, it makes sense that the opposite would be true, that cold weather would suppress crime, as suggested in this study.

In January, the New York Times ran a piece suggesting that a cold snap had put the lid on Gotham murders.

We are unaware of any serious, academic attempts to make correlations beween violent crime and snowfall.

But Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams evidently sees a definitive correlation, based on what we are declaring the Tweet of the day:

"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Fewer shootings and homicides in Philly when it does!"
