Sneeze Meter: Pine pollen makes it to the top

Thursday's pollen report:

Trees: Very High
Grasses: Moderate
Ragweed: Not Seen
Other Weeds: Not Seen
Mold Spores: Very High

Predominant allergens: Pine, Oak and Mulberry Tree Pollen

Tree Pollen is Very High. Even though there was light rain in the region, tree pollen volume increased. This is primarily due to a surge in Pine Tree pollen which today accounts for nearly 60 percent of all tree pollen volume. It's difficult to comprehend, but today there's more than 20 times as much Pine tree pollen in our local air samples compared to Wednesday. Mulberry tree pollen is edging out Oak. Together, however, Mulberry and Oak tree pollen account for another estimated 35 percent of all tree pollen.

In his blog, Donald J. Dvorin, the area's official pollen country, says the 2016 Spring Pollen Volume "has been anything but typical."

"It's been a roller coaster the weather and for pollen, particularly Tree Pollen, and the pollen process.  There's been disruption to the usual process with days when more pollen was released later in the day versus the typical early morning. "
