Severe storm encore

After the highest temperatures of the season were recorded this afternoon, a fresh round of thunderstorms has been rumbling through the region.

So far, nothing in the league with last week's hail outbreak has been reported, but wind gusts over 50 m.p.h. have been reported.

Several trees were reported down in Harleysville, Montgomery County, and in East Rockhill Township, Bucks County, a tree was toppled on Schoolhouse Road.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect unti 7:15 p.m. in South Jersey, and the National Weather Service has a  severe-thunderstorm watch up until midnight for the entire region.

The storms are associated with a strong front that is going to put an end to our mini-warm spell.

The official temperature hit 88 this afternoon at Philadelphia International Airport. While that's quite warm, that fell far short of the record, 95, set in 1991.

For the rest of the week, however, quite a cool-down is coming, and temperatures won't get out of the 60s on Thursday.
