Nor'easter bearing down on region

Nor'easter bearing down on region

POSTED: Wednesday, February 6, 2013, 5:44 PM

For days the European forecast model has foreseen a potent winter storm forming off the Atlantic coast, and now the short-term models are in accord.

This is likely to be a volatile and fluid situation, and expect forecast changes while the storm is raging.

The current National Weather Service forecast is calling for the storm to begin affecting the region  Thursday night and to linger well into Saturday.

The precipitation is expected to start as snow, then change to rain, and then back to snow again during the early morning hours of Saturday.

How much accumulates will depend on how two different systems interact when they consolidate somewhere off the Carolina coast.

But the thinking is that about 2 to 4 inches will accumulate in and around Philly -- which would make it the biggest of the season -- with up to 6 inches in far northern Bucks County.

As our online story suggests, Boston could get creamed, with up to 2 feet possible in southern New England, where the precipitation will be heavier, and whiter.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly is saying that winds could gust to 55 m.p.h. at the Shore, and to 40 m.p.h. inland.

Here is the 4 p.m. briefing, and the projected snow map.

The Tonner's been storing Genny Cream Ale like a squirrel and now it's about to pay off!

And where in tarnation does The Tonner get his Genny Cream Ale? This flyboy has searched high (and I mean really high, like at altitude) and low, to no avail. I tried the state stores (we don't carry ales, they say), neighboring states, even Wegmans. What, pray tell, am I supposed to do during this Nor'easter?

The key to getting Genny Cream Ale is to go to a beer distributor who has a sign that only says "Beer" on it. If the distributor has an actual name, no Genny Cream Ale. You increase your odds if the "Beer" sign is missing a letter.

So we should prepare for a dusting or 2 feet of snow because the weatherman is always wrong.

More BS hype, 2-4 inches over 2 1/2 to 3 days is NOTHING. Of course and as usual I'm sure this forecast is subject to change. Get the umbrellas ready, not the shovels.

I don't mean to embarrass you, but you do realize that the expensive weather systems don't actually tell the storms what to do? They try to predict the weather based off of current conditions and many many variables. That is why weather reports change so frequently. It isn't because the local weather girl is reading the system wrong.

By the way, how is it bs hype? That would imply that what they are saying is exaggerated, but even you admit that this storm, as predicted, is nothing.

Also, a little knowledge for ya brother. A storm with potential high wind gusts is a big deal, you just have to remember that this article wasn't written specifically for you. Since its so spread out over a couple days, it is even worse. Especially when talking about multiple storms and changing temperatures.

The irony in this situation is that while you are knocking the report, you are literally trying to predict all rain out of spite. It's kind of like you are insulting someone's work while at the same time doing a much worse job.

So, yea...hype would be them predicting worst case where temps don't rise high enough. Instead they'll just predict what they see, and if this storm is worse you'll be one of the goofs saying how they got it wrong, despite calling them out on hyping it up.

Ahhh yes grasshopper, grasshoppa school is dismissed.

European model? Don't you mean the ACME model to get people to buy the makings for French Toast? I guess that is where the European comes into play. Will believe it when I see it. As for those who want to panic...go for it, if you want to buy into the media hype, or you could simply wait a few hours before you venture out this weekend to buy your groceries.
