January among Top 15 warmest in Philly

Temperatures about 5.5 degrees above normal, but it did snow.

It's been three weeks since the daily average temperature was below normal in Philadelphia, and January should finish among the top 15 warmest in records dating to 1874, according to the National Weather Service.

Assuming Tuesday's temperature forecast works out, the month will finish with an average temperature of 38.4, about 5.5 degrees above normal.

This will be the eighth consecutive month of above-normal temperatures recorded at Philadelphia International Airport.

Despite the warmth, with the 0.8 inches of snow measured Monday, the monthly total increased to 5.7 inches, mighty close to the monthly average of 6.4.

It also has been quite a gloomy month, with only two clear days and daytime cloud cover near 80 percent; typically, that number is closer to 50 percent.
