Heat: Triple-digit heat index expected Friday

Friday could be the most uncomfortable day of heat wave.

The National Weather Service is continuing its "excessive heat warning" for a third and final day Friday, which could be the most uncomfortable of the week.

The official highs for Wednesday and Thursday were 94 on both days, the highest readings of the season.

Temperatures again are forecast to reach the mid-90s on Friday, however, the heat index is expected to reach 100; it fell just short the last two days.

With the warning, the city's highly regarded heat response plan will remain in effect, including operation of the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging's Heatline. The city also is encouraging people to look in on older friends, relatives, and neighbors.

The Heatline will be open from 9 a.m. until midnight Thursday and Friday.

A slight cool-down is due Saturday, and Sunday it will be more comfortable.
