Green Bay coming to Philly

On Sunday, Eagles-watchers will get a glimpse of the very near future.

Chances of any snow in Green Bay Sunday afternoon are slight, but at kickoff wind-chills are forecast to be around 18 with winds gusting near 20 m.p.h.

Philadelphia, meet your next air mass.

By the time the core of the cold slides eastward, the trip will have a modifying effect, but relative to normal, it actually will be colder around here early next week than it is in Green Bay on Sunday.

The forecast high in Green Bay is 28, which would be 14 degrees below the normal for a Nov. 16.

The National Weather Service forecast high for Philadelphia for Tuesday and Wednesday is in the upper 30s, which would be about 18 degrees below.

That would be impressive cold for so early in the season, given that the normal daytime high even in the dead of winter never gets below 40.

A close brush with a coastal storm might generate some more wet snowflakes early Monday, but plain old rain should fall during the day.

Incidentally, some areas north and west of the city, particularly elevated places, reported picking up 0.5 to 2 inches of snow last night, but nothing officially in Philadelphia.

One other chilling note: The temperature is expected to fall into the upper 20s overnight at Philadelphia International Airport, marking the first time this season it had reached freezing.

The average first-freezing date in the 140 years of record is Nov. 8, but that date is a very moveable feast. The average for the last 10 years is Nov. 11.
