Flood threat
Half-foot-plus of rain, 36,000 power outages, from overnight storms.
Almost 7 inches of rain was reported in Eastampton, Burlington County from yesterday afternoon into this morning, with 6.25 measured at the National Weather Service forecast office in Mount Holly.
On the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware, the amounts weren't as prodigious, but lightning strikes knocked out power to 36,000 PECO customers, according to PECO spokesman Greg Smore.
More trouble is possible from midafternoon into this evening as yet another disturbance crosses the region, setting up the potential for further rounds of heavy rain.
Thus the weather service has issued a flood watch for the entire region through 8 p.m. A flood warning is posted for the North Branch of the Rancocas Creek, near the zone of the heaviest downpours, through 3:15 p.m.
The forecast for the rest of the week is almost unbelievable as a front clear out an air mass that has been about as pleasant as a low-graded illness.
It calls for slightly below normal temperatures for later in the week, which would be quite a change for a month that was on its way to become one of the warmest Julys on record.
